Khagendra Gharti-Chhetry, Esq., Founding Partner of the International Lawyers and Consultants Pvt. Ltd., has been practicing law in the United States of America since 1987. He has extensive experience across a wide range of practice areas including bankruptcy, business and commercial laws, immigration and nationality, international law, litigation, real estate, and hydropower matters. He has successfully represented clients such as Nepal Rastra Central Bank for anti-money laundering and has advised the Government of Nepal in h drafting of the Constitution. He has authored several articles related to international and municipal branches of law.

He is the first Nepali to be admitted to the practice of law in the United States. Mr. Chhetry is qualified as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New York, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the Supreme Court of the United States, and as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of Nepal.

Mr. Chhetry received his J.D. from Fordham University and an LL.M. from the Columbia University in the City of New York. He is a member of several legal organizations, such as the American Bar Association (ABA), New York Bar Association, Nepal Bar Association, Indo-American Lawyers Association, et. al. He has been appointed Foreign Advisor to the Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of Non-Resident Nepalese. He was also the Founder President of Columbia University Alumni Association’s Nepal Chapter.

Experience

He has a wide range of experience working with international clients from the United States, China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, states in Northern and Western Africa, and those in the Middle East. Mr. G.C. previously held positions at NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and also served as an Assistant General Counsel at the New York City Commission on Human Rights in New York and a representative of the Constitution Recommendation Commission of Nepal to the United States. For over 3 decades, Mr. Chhetry has been providing legal services to individuals, corporations, and has advised foreign officials. His adept and successful handling of cases has earned him a high reputation among his clients and colleagues. He is also the first Nepali to be admitted to the practice of law in the United States and has been practicing in state and federal courts since 1987.
